April Davis, Oregon Military Department Public Affairs)Herschel Walker, Heisman trophy winner and former National Football League player, signs an autograph for Oregon Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Terrence Hoover at the 41 Infantry Division Armed Forces Reserve Center at Camp Withycombe in Clackamas, Ore., Feb. 6. Walker spoke to service members, veterans, and their families about his personal experiences with mental illness and the importance of seeking treatment.

Walker is known for his talent on the football field. He was also an Olympian and recently won two professional mixed martial arts matches with technical knockouts. He now visits military installations throughout the nation to share his personal experiences with mental illness.

The event at Camp Withycombe was sponsored by the Patriot Support Program to reduce stigma among service members for seeking help with mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety.
