Rockland, Maine - John Eaton will give a slide-talk March 14 at 6:30 PM entitled: Beneath the surface: The health of Maine’s Midcoast estuaries in the age of ocean acidification

On Thursday March 14th, Jon Eaton of Georges River Tidewater Association will speak on the early results of a long term citizen monitoring survey designed to monitor the health of the St. George, Medomak and Weskeag River estuaries. The effort was launched last year in response to scientific data that indicates ocean acidification may be accelerated in coastal waters due to nutrient runoff and decomposition of organic matter, and there is also evidence that shell producing marine animals-including clams, mussels and perhaps lobsters – are vulnerable to even slight drops in pH. This slideshow will explore the beauty of the Midcoast region while describing what has been found in the monitoring program’s first year
