Reddick was acquired by the Athletics from the Red Sox on December 28th, 2011 in a deal that sent Andrew Bailey and Ryan Sweeney to the Red Sox in exchange for Reddick and two minor leaguers. He was drafted by the Red Sox in the first round (7th overall) of the 1993 First-Year Player Draft. As a minor leaguer in 1995 and 1996, Nixon played against the Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field as a member of the Trenton Thunder; then a Red Sox affiliate. Nixon appeared in 1,092 big league games where he hit .274 with 137 home runs and 555 RBI. Nixon had a career best year in 2003 where he hit .306 with 24 doubles and 28 home runs. In Game Three of the American League Division Series that year with the Red Sox facing elimination, Nixon delivered a pinch-hit two-run homer in the 11th inning lifting the Red Sox to a 3-1 victory. Nixon's Red Sox career came to an end in 2006. He spent the 2007 season with the Cleveland Indians and the 2008 season with the New York Mets before retiring in the spring of 2009.
